Football in New York
Trend-setting, extraordinary and the worldwide hub for many activities, New York offers the ideal opportunity for students to ignite their passion for sports outside the UK and beyond the school grounds.
New York City is a bustling location within close proximity to several International airports, top stadiums and within an hour from training and fixture sites situated on Randall's Island or neighbouring New York boroughs. Football fans will appreciate the possibility of professional matches at sites including Yankee Stadium and Madison Square Garden.
Within walking distance of Times Square, staff and students can relax in either a Manhattan based hotel or hostel. All centralised accommodation has the option of room only or bed and breakfast with a wide selection of cafes, restaurants and dinners surrounding the area.
Free-time is taken care of with a diverse selection of shopping areas with department stores such as Barney's, Macey's and Bloomingdale's; and an array of entertainment opportunities including themed restaurants, West End shows and influential museums such as the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA).
During excursion times, making choices from the plethora of tours and landmarks could be difficult. So we advise going to the magnificent Empire State Building, where you will find the Sky Ride, a virtual tour of New York.
With the city's humid continental climate, we suggest visiting the city during May Half Term or at Easter, when the weather is warm and there is a large choice of teams to play. For a quieter stay with cold weather, both October and February Half Terms are also recommended, when an array of winter sports will be available.
Wider curriculum links: Offering superb sports facilities alongside welcoming culture, a rich history and architecture spanning from several eras, New York communicates a natural link between sports and other curriculum areas, including History, Art and Geography.
